Templin

10.-11. Juni 2022 · 12h Race in Templin

After the great start to the season in Mülsen, we went to Templin very optimistically. The last time we raced there was in our rookie season 2019 and we therefore had little experience. With optimal conditions on Friday, we were able to quickly find the ideal line and fine-tune our setup for the race. Qualifying was scheduled for Friday evening this time, with the special feature that only one lap is driven and timed. Since I've had to deal with some pressure situations in the GTC so far, I saw this qualifying session more as a challenge and less as a hurdle, and I was able to prove myself. So we were able to start the race as the strongest Trophy team from P4 overall.

The race start also had a different format: we didn't start one behind the other as usual, but in rows of two next to each other ...

In addition, there was a sharp left-hand turn after the race was released, which can cause a lot of conflict potential when starting in double file. Our start went well, I was able to maintain my position and got through the first corner well. The two karts in front of me were fighting each other hard, I was able to take advantage of that and passed them both to P2. I quickly caught up with the leader and overtook him on the second lap. Our kart was running perfectly and I was able to keep a gap of four to five kart lengths in front. Unfortunately, after about 25 minutes we noticed that our grip was weakening and the kart started to slip more and more. We dropped back to second place and the lap times got worse and worse, our pit crew noticed a lot of wear on the {lightbox href=images/galerie_en/14.jpg} left rear tyre{/lightbox}. With a lot of hope, we corrected the air pressure at the first driver change. Unfortunately, this did not prove to be the case, so we lost further places, but were able to finish the junior classification in second place. Our problems with the tyres got worse and worse during the race, which also happened to five or six other teams. After we changed the tyres, it was better for a short time, but then we had to deal with a puncture on the rear left tyre. But we made the best of it and managed to finish third in the Trophy classification.

After the race it was discovered that the tyre supplier had delivered some sets of poor quality and we had got one of them off. So unfortunately we could not show our full potential, but that is part of motorsport.
