Wackersdorf

Wackersdorf

08.-10. Juli 2022 · Bavarian 24h Race in Wackersdorf

The Bavarian 24h is the highlight of the season for everyone in the GTC. And so there were high expectations and excitement in the air in Wackersdorf this year too. 24 hours of engine noises, 24 hours of standing at the post, 24 hours of adrenaline.

When we arrived on Friday, we concentrated on our set-up and were very competitive in terms of time in free practice. We didn't put too much weight on the first good times yet, though, because you have 24 hours ahead of you in which everything can turn upside down. My team mate started qualifying on Saturday and unfortunately we could only get P18. So we started the race a bit depressed, which didn't go badly for us, but didn't give us any advantage either. We could hardly make up any places and, strategically speaking, we also left the Junior classification on the track, as we then had too little time to get P2 in the first three hours.

My first stint went rather badly as it got warmer and warmer towards lunchtime. I drove in the front train and due to the heat on the track it was hardly possible to catch up in the field there and I was just swimming along in terms of time.

The second stint around 8pm went much better. I was able to finish in the top 5 and was very consistent overall.

In my third stint I drove from four to six in the night. Unfortunately, the stint went very badly because we didn't set the tyre pressure correctly when we changed the tyres, which meant that although I was very fast for the first 15 minutes, my times dropped abruptly afterwards because the tyre pressure was so high that I was just sliding.

I did my last stint on Sunday morning, which went really well. The kart was perfect on the track and I was able to keep up with the times of the top 3.

The race ended for us with a P3 in the Junior classification and in the Trophy we unfortunately took a big hit shortly before the end. It looked like we were going to take P4, but as the team in front of us had an accident we saw ourselves in P3. No one could have guessed that in a 24-hour race, everything could actually be taken again in the last 15 minutes. Our transponder fell off and so our laps were no longer counted, although we rolled into the finish in P3. After a long fight and perseverance, this was of course bitterly disappointing and we had to go home with P6 in the Trophy.
